Choosing a Low-profile layout TKL mechanical keyboard for Mac? Definitely can't ignore Keychron K1v4

Keychron K1v4 is an outstanding mechanical keyboard from Keychron, this keyboard impresses with its extremely thin and light design but still sturdy with a high-quality aluminum frame. In particular, K1v4 is a rare mechanical keyboard that uses a Low-profile structure with a layout that provides excellent support for Mac computers.

What I like about the Keychron K1v4 is that this keyboard has an extremely thin and light design, designed for mobile devices so it can be easily carried without worrying about getting tangled in a backpack. The K1v4 is only 18 mm thin, half the thickness of a normal mechanical keyboard and the frame is made of aluminum, according to Keychron, it is aircraft aluminum. Therefore, the feeling when holding this keyboard in your hand is extremely sturdy and thick.

The Keychron K1v4 has a 5-degree tilted keyboard surface. Although it does not have a built-in tilt-adjustable stand, the slim design and tilt angle are enough to provide a comfortable typing experience. I use this keyboard all day long without feeling tired or sore wrists. The 4 small rubber pads attached under the keys prevent slipping well on flat table surfaces such as wooden or glass tables.

Keychron K1v4 has two different keyboard layout versions: TKL and Fullsize. The layout is airy, the distance between the keys is spacious, the fingers can be easily stretched, not blocked, so it reduces fatigue when typing for a long time and typing quickly. The keycap on the Keychron K1v4 is made of ergonomic ABS plastic, the surface is curved to hug the fingertips and is a clear plastic block, the key surface is painted with a smooth matte layer to increase the typing feeling and the characters on the keys are precisely laser engraved, high character definition to ensure the keyboard light below can shine clearly.

The switch design is flat with a total thickness of only 11 mm, and a switch travel of 2.5 mm. Although thin, the Switch on the Keychron K1v4 still provides an extremely good typing experience. With the Low-profile Gateron switch on the Blue Switch version, it still provides the familiar clicky sound and tactile pump feedback. However, the clicky sound is not loud because the tongue is tiny and the feedback is not very clear.

With a fairly short key travel and a Low-profile key structure, I think the K1v4 will be more suitable for light tasks such as typing, graphics, coding than gaming. I use this keyboard for work and gaming at night, and I feel like I like using it for typing more than gaming because the short travel makes spamming the keys uncomfortable. I always feel like the switches are fragile, so I lack confidence in my operations.

Keychon K1v4 supports Bluetooth 5.1 connection for up to 3 devices at the same time. On the keyboard there are switch buttons for using in wired mode via USB-C cable or Bluetooth and switching layouts corresponding to Mac/Windows or Android/iOS.

The layout of the Keychron K1v4 is designed for both Mac and Windows, for example, the F1 - F12 key row has additional Mac icons, the Ctrl, Windows, Alt key cluster also has Mac characters such as Option, Command. So when switching to Mac mode, the Keychron K1 will have the same layout as the Magic Keyboard.

Regarding the lights, the RGB version will have 18 effects, the white LED version also has effects but cannot change color. The integrated battery on the Keychron K1v4 has a capacity of 2000mAh. The battery life announced by Keychron is 36 hours with the white backlight version, 38 hours with the RGB version. I have used the TKL layout version and can comfortably use it for 4-5 days if the LED lights are turned on.
